For 25 years, DataXstream has lived and breathed SAP. From our first SAP installation in 1998 to running more than 75 systems today, we’ve grown alongside the platform, evolving from an SAP services company into a product organization focused on solving complex selling challenges for SAP customers.
When we set out to build OMS+ Cloud, our mission was simple but ambitious: deliver a clean-core, cloud-native solution for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition that matched the depth and configurability our customers expect, without compromising scalability, usability, or speed.
The Challenge
As organizations move to the cloud, order management becomes a stress test for architecture. Traditional SAP order processes weren’t built for multi-channel, multi-region, or multi-device environments. Our customers wanted:
- Faster deployments without long implementation cycles.
- Consistent performance across desktop, mobile, counter, and call center.
- Real-time integration with SAP and non-SAP applications.
That’s why we designed OMS+ Cloud for SAP public cloud extensibility, scalability, and automation. All 100% SAP-managed.
Building Differently
Developing in ABAP Cloud and SAP BTP forced us to unlearn old habits. We adopted an API-first mindset, leveraged OData and REST APIs, and committed to clean-core principles from day one.
Not everything came easily. Certain functions, like Business Object support and logistics configuration, remain works in progress across SAP’s public cloud releases. But every limitation drove innovation: creative use of CDS views, tighter collaboration with SAP teams, and a continuous delivery approach grounded in automation.
“Building in ABAP Cloud and BTP changed how we develop,” I often tell our team. “It made us rethink our assumptions, prioritize lifecycle-safe extensibility, and treat automation as a core design principle.”
What We Learned About Scalable Delivery
Scalable delivery is a philosophy. To build solutions that grow with our customers, we embraced:
- Continuous integration and auto-deployment through the SAP Store.
- Global repeatability, ensuring that an implementation in the U.S. can scale across EMEA or LATAM with minimal variation.
- Customer influence, using SAP’s public cloud feedback channels to advocate for features that accelerate enterprise adoption.
Looking Ahead
The future of enterprise selling is intelligent, extensible, and collaborative. Together with SAP, we’re helping shape what is next; integrating with SAP BTP, leveraging AI, and keeping customers at the center of every decision.
Clean core is a catalyst for innovation.
