Leading Oil and Gas Distributor Simplifies Order Entry and Training Time with OMS+

A leading oil and gas distributor found itself in complicated situation when facing pain points such as order entry and overall ease of use. Touching on the topic of what the company was previously using for their order management, standard SAPGUI, although a powerhouse for data, the cumbersome process to learn and use the system can be complicated. Especially seen in distribution, orders can have hundreds of line items or be composed of multiple transactions, making the need for a focused and streamlined order management system an unquestioned requirement.
In this customer’s particular situation, they had identified their pain points but were unsure of how to resolve them. This led the distribution company to attempt to build their own home-grown solution that was easily trainable and mitigated the SAPGUI order entry process. The customer spent many years of development trying to fine tune this home-grown web application to manage their organizational growth. Although the home-grown system was eventually able to simplify their order entry problems, the customer continued to face data synchronization problems on a continuous basis and troublesome task of overall system maintenance. As, Steve Park, project manager over this development points out, “Data is only as good as you can sync it.” In other words, data is only of value when properly processed and extracted to further provide information and promote insight.
Moving Past a Partial Solution
As mentioned, above, the customer was able to build a solution to manage their current need for order processing for a percentage of their users. As they began strategizing how to fully move all users to this home-gown solution, they began to foreseen complications on top of their current synchronization issues. The company knew they were in a place they must decide what they really needed to do. It was becoming too challenging to keep the infrastructure maintained as well as continue to drive system improvements while still focusing on organizational growth. Their options were to continue investing valuable time and resources for a partial solution or seek an alternative solution to support what they really needed to accomplish.
